The Day My Wife Set Me Up With Her Best Friend

True story and no it’s not anything weird that involves some kind of alternative lifestyle.

Just hear me out.

Eighteen years ago TODAY (St. Patricks Day) Lisa (my wife) and I were both single and working as E.R. nurses.

I was on nights and her on days.

A few days before St. Pat’s day in the year 2000 we decided we’d go out…a bunch of us nurses…to a bar downtown. Let off some steam and have some green beer and stuff.

I asked Lisa to set me up with her good friend, Andrea (named changed to protect the innocent ; )  ) and Lisa said no prob.

Off we go, about 6 of us, me the only dude (did I mention I was single?) and the night was off to a rocking start.

The bar we were at, Howl at The Moon, had these dueling pianos and man were we all into it.

Beer was flowing…

Music was rocking…

My spidey senses were all-a-tingling because little Ricky and Andrea were surely gonna end up “lucky”. (heh-heh).

“Time for another round!” someone yelled above the dueling piano guys and being a good homie I mosied over to the bar to order up.

Beers in hand, music on blast and fun being had I walked back over to our table and..well…hmmmm…nobody was there.

They had ditched me.

Seriously…like they had all left.

Except one gal.

Lisa.

Lisa was still sitting there waiting and we sat together…beers in hand…maybe a little awkward at first but…

We started talking.

And I really HEARD her…

And I really SAW her…

And like a 1950’s Hollywood movie the sound seemed to fade away and the smokey air seemed to clear up and all we heard and saw were each other.

Yeah.

Just.

Like.

That.

I think I fell in love that very night with my friend and later to be wife Lisa.

And thank goodness that on St. Patricks day in the year 2000 my wife set me up with her best friend and her best friend dumped me.

The LUCKIEST day of my life.

Thank you for reading and sharing our true love story so lemme end with this:

The next fifty

** Fair Warning **

This blog is real, raw and prone to foul language at times. I will also be talking about the cannabis industry, beer and a lotta donuts.

** You Have Been Warned **

Look, I just turned 50 this July and something kinda clicked. Well…a lotta things kinda clicked so in a sense Lisa (the beautiful lady who makes me whole) and I made some really big life decisions.

And that’s what this blog and site is about.

— It’s not about finding yourself…

— It’s not about getting second chances…

— hell, it’s not even about mid-life crisis…

It’s about doing what a lotta people only talk about and doing and doing it with style, class, and a counterculture twist that most 50 year olds would scoff at.

Oh…and most important not giving a phuck what people think, do or say about you.

Yeah.

That.

Mostly that.

Maybe you’ve toyed with the idea of chasing your dreams and saying adios to a life of mediocrity…look, I’m not judging you…and maybe you’ve wanted a peek into what that could look and feel like. That’s what we’re gonna talk about here because that’s the path we’re on.

The second fifty.

Donuts, beer and cannabis (and yoga and yes…Paleo <<at times>>).  I love donuts. Lots of them. I really dig a good IPA and cannabis? Well, that’s where this gets fun and interesting because it’s not only one of the hottest topics around but as an entrepreneur it’s chock full of opportunity which is why I became a shareholder in a privately held canna corporation and am now known as San Antonio’s first cannabis entrepreneur.

So stay tuned.

Go grab a donut…a beer or a…well…you know…and buckle up. This is gonna be a fantastic ride.
