Chasing The Sun

Hey there my friends.

I’m a believer in stories. By that I mean stories and how they relate to business…maybe YOUR business…and one of my fav ones is about chasing the sunset.

You see as entrepreneurs we often glorify the grind, we’re always “hustling” and sleep is for when you’re dead.

Right?

Don’t get me wrong, I’m a fan of hustle and grind and burning midnight oil and stuff but here’s the flip side of that.

You see the story I like to wrap around all those phrases is that as an entrepreneur we can spend all day…all night…all week grinding and sprinting to the east to watch the sunset.

***** PAUSE and think about that for a sec *****

Only to one day pick up our heads, take a breath and realize that the sun sets to the west.

Did you catch that??

But what that really means is that it doesn’t matter how cool your biz is…how driven you are or how much passion you have for entrepreneurship or cannabis…

If you don’t have a MAP then you’re destined to always be chasing the sunset.

And that’s why people like me exist.

Stick with me here.

You see we’ve not only bootstrapped started several companies in a variety of industries (6, 7 and 8 figures big), but we’ve also sold a few (for some pretty large numbers) and coached others on how to do the EXACT SAME thing with proven principles, tactics and strategies that have worked time after time.

In other words we have helped hundreds upon hundreds of entrepreneurs create their very own road-MAP so that when you decide you wanna chase the REAL sunset…well…your MAP keeps you actually chasing the sunset called success.

On Saturday, July 28th here in San Antonio we’ll be hosting a 1/2 day canna-business summit. We’ve reserved space in one of San Antonio’s premier properties (1st class!) so that you can focus and drill deep into your business.

The myth of 4:20 and cannabis…explained

4:20.
For a lotta folks it’s a random time of the day but for others…say those who enjoy or are connected to the cannabis industry it has even more meaning.
April 20th, or “4/20” is a pretty unique and special day of the year and if we just call it what it is it’s pretty much a special time of the day EVERY day.
So the questions remain and they are:::
  1. WHY is that day so important…and
  2. WHAT exactly does it mean?
Some say it’s the police code for a marijuana infraction…others say it’s the number of terpenes in the marijuana plant and yet others say it’s Bob Marley’s REAL birthday (which it isn’t).
The fact is that the whole 4:20 myth started back in the 70’s when a bunch of high school kids in northern California went off, after school, apparently seeking a hidden marijuana stash. The story says that they’d agreed to meet at “4:20” and would set out to find a weed stash that had been hidden by a supposed law enforcement officer so as not to get caught.
The lore then goes on to say that “4:20” became a kinda rally cry and secret code word for…well…smoking weed. And that secret sesh code lives on to this day.
If you wanna read the rest of the story head over here

For now though I do wanna share some news.

The best part is that we’re going to be working a lot closer with artisan cannabis creators. What that means is simply this. We’re going to be launching “the etsy of cannabis” and our platform and store will be a place to discover handmade, super high quality and unique CBD infused and hemp products.

For now though be sure to stock up on your fav CBD lines and use the code “April20” for a deal and of course, free shipping.

Happy 420 my friends.

Peace…

Rick (it’s 4:20 somewhere) Martinez

Top 5 lessons learned from the Reno cannabis convention

Hi there my friend after a wicked fast and impactful conference I finally have some breathing room.

I know you’re super busy so lemme just get right to it. The Reno Cannabis Convention was incredible and for a lot of reasons. One is of course that I was a guest speaker and two is that the premise of this convention was education.

In other words it wasn’t about getting high…it was about educating folks as to the power of this plant AND the opportunities in business.

So without further ado…here are the top 5 things I learned and wanted to share:::

1. Know who your customer is. Yup. This is no longer stoner territory. Nowadays the clients and customers are mom’s, grandpa’s, children with autism or epilepsy, folks who have trouble sleeping and others who have difficulty staying focused. It’s the athlete wanting a recovery alternative and the baby boomer who simply wants to golf again.
Feel me?
The cannabis client is changing right before our very eyes.
You don’t have to only pick one…you just have to know what each one needs and how to solve that problem.

2. CBD is the soon to be king. The chatter is weed. Pot. Ganja. And whoa be to the person who has not given the proper attention to the red headed stepchild called “CBD”. It’s legal in all 50 states. It has all the health and relief bennies of big daddy ‘weed’ and the best part? You do NOT get high. As an RN and alternative wellness advocate this is all music to my ears.
So while the attention is on growing pot and dispensaries…we’re over here quietly building a “Hempire”.

3. Build it and they will come is a lie. This is business folks. Getting into cannabis is easy. Wicked easy. But being successful takes time, patience, skill and s stick to it mentality.  If you build it then you surely better be prepared to sustain it like an entrepreneurial pro.
Only 50% of businesses survive the first 4-5 years. You have a choice from day 1. Amateur or pro.

4. Find the right people. Your team is critical and I fall back to the age old mantra of “hire slow, fire fast”. One bad apple on your team can be the most toxic ingredient of all so choose wisely. Friends and family as hires? Uhhh….yeah…I think not. Your people are your front line.

5. Don’t convince, share. Everyone grows the BEST product. Every store owner has the BEST shop. Every marketer has the BEST ad copy. Yadda yadda. Don’t crush folks with crap they could care less about…smother them with love. Tell your story. The reason WHY you’re in this industry is way more important than the fact that you’re $2 a pound less then the other guy. Facts tell…stories sell.

So that’s it folks.

There were many lessons learned, friends made and honestly tons of take aways but these were the top 5 I thought I’d share first.

And in case you missed it…this is the #1 reason why people are choosing CBD.
Hope you’re off to a rip roaring day!

Commit to your best life.

Peace…

(CBD & Stress) They say pressure makes diamonds but…

It’s a fact of life my friends.

Pressure. Stress. Anxiety.

I know that there’s a motivational phrase that talks about how pressure makes diamonds but holy hell…

The stress of pressure causes anxiety. ; )

I know some folks believe they have a bulletproof mindset or a stress-less life and while I might agree that is true MOST of the time the fact is that things emerge that are unexpected and sometimes beyond our control that cause us a little stress.

Or anxiety.

Or both.

So one of the things that makes us different at Wellness Project RX isn’t simply that we offer only premium, curated CBD products but also that we understand the plant and it’s potential impact on your well being.

I mean we are nurses too. ; )

In other words…education and understanding more about CBD and it’s wonderfully awesome positive impact on you…me…us.

So…

Why Take CBD For Stress?

In case you haven’t heard, CBD is a revolutionary adaptogenic plant extract that balances and supports multiple systems in the body, helping with everything from sleep and appetite to pain and inflammation.

CBD’s beneficial effects on serotonin, cortisol (the stress hormone) and inflammation (the root of nearly every modern disease) have made it a popular daily supplement, I take it every day, as well as an alternative to over-the-counter and prescription pharmaceuticals.

Unfortunately, the hype around this new therapeutic and all natural supplement has crowded the market with low-quality CBD from Chinese and Eastern European sources with questionable purity standards. (Hemp can bioaccumulate heavy metals if it’s not grown with pure soil and water…but that’s another topic).

And that’s why we exist.

To cut through the clutter and mis/dis information around CBD.

Read more or check out our growing video library and if you’re interested then by all means we’re happy to help.

Use the code “RICKY” for a deal and free shipping. And yes…if you prefer our subscription service then the discount applies to EVERY order.

Hope this helps and know that we’re here for you.

Commit to your best life.

The Day My Wife Set Me Up With Her Best Friend

True story and no it’s not anything weird that involves some kind of alternative lifestyle.

Just hear me out.

Eighteen years ago TODAY (St. Patricks Day) Lisa (my wife) and I were both single and working as E.R. nurses.

I was on nights and her on days.

A few days before St. Pat’s day in the year 2000 we decided we’d go out…a bunch of us nurses…to a bar downtown. Let off some steam and have some green beer and stuff.

I asked Lisa to set me up with her good friend, Andrea (named changed to protect the innocent ; )  ) and Lisa said no prob.

Off we go, about 6 of us, me the only dude (did I mention I was single?) and the night was off to a rocking start.

The bar we were at, Howl at The Moon, had these dueling pianos and man were we all into it.

Beer was flowing…

Music was rocking…

My spidey senses were all-a-tingling because little Ricky and Andrea were surely gonna end up “lucky”. (heh-heh).

“Time for another round!” someone yelled above the dueling piano guys and being a good homie I mosied over to the bar to order up.

Beers in hand, music on blast and fun being had I walked back over to our table and..well…hmmmm…nobody was there.

They had ditched me.

Seriously…like they had all left.

Except one gal.

Lisa.

Lisa was still sitting there waiting and we sat together…beers in hand…maybe a little awkward at first but…

We started talking.

And I really HEARD her…

And I really SAW her…

And like a 1950’s Hollywood movie the sound seemed to fade away and the smokey air seemed to clear up and all we heard and saw were each other.

Yeah.

Just.

Like.

That.

I think I fell in love that very night with my friend and later to be wife Lisa.

And thank goodness that on St. Patricks day in the year 2000 my wife set me up with her best friend and her best friend dumped me.

The LUCKIEST day of my life.

Thank you for reading and sharing our true love story so lemme end with this:

“Sometimes the heart sees what is invisible to the eye.”
